Fall is here! It’s my favorite time of the year for so many reasons. For most people, Fall is a time for new beginnings. For me, that feeling is amplified since Julian and I got married in September and our baby girl was born five years later in the beginning of September. Oh and the fashion. No other time of the year compares in terms of the outfit possibilities. Today I’m sharing what I’m wearing this Fall and how I update my look as we transition between seasons. The colors, the layers, the textures, the possibilities are endless. You can also wear cute outfits without covering it all up with a bulky coat to prevent yourself from freezing, aka east coast winter.

These are the pieces I’ll be rotating throughout Fall and into winter. Many of them are staples that I wear every year but I did spruce things up a bit with a few new additions. Many of these pieces are on sale so you can add to your wardrobe or get some inspiration on how to put together new outfits with what is already in your closet.

An ivory off the shoulder sweater

Ah the return of the cozy off the shoulder knit sweater. It’s comfortable, warm and the epitome of Fall fashion. The one I’m wearing in these photos is from Current/Elliott and purchased from Nordstrom Rack. I linked a few similar ones, including some incredibly cozy knits from Abercrombie that are currently on sale. I’m planning on wearing this one with a pair of high-waisted jeans and with a cozy pair of sweats for a more relaxed look.

Grey high-waisted jeans

High-waisted jeans are really a necessity all year long but particularly in the Fall. I have two children so I require high-waisted jeans that create a flattering silhouette. I’ve been loving the jeans at Express recently because they have petite sizing and come in short, regular and long. I plan on wearing these with an off-the-shoulder knit sweater and white boots for colder days.

White boots

I must say that I was not sure about the white bootie trend when it first appeared. I thought they were a little too much for everyday life. Then I set my preconceived notions aside and started thinking about all the outfit possibilities. I wore them with my window pane maxi dress here and they instantly made the outfit pop. I’m already planning my next look, which will consist of some variation of grey denim and an oversized knit sweater. What do you think about the white boot trend? I was hesitant at first but I’m all in now.

A camel sweater

It’s very minimalistic and makes for a very chic overall look. I recently purchased this one from H&M for $20 and I’m excited to style it with some denim or over a slip dress.

Plaid blazer

I bought this plaid blazer from Zara last year originally as a trend piece but I’m happily surprised at how often I wear it. It can easily go from work to happy hour, not to mention as a layering piece for date nights. The blazer is warm enough for a cool Fall morning and adds an interesting texture and print to your Fall look.

Camel Coat

Whether it’s Spring or Fall, I always include a camel trench and camel coat in my roundups, respectively. I wrote all about my love for camel coats here and will continue to talk about it because it’s such a key component of a classic Fall wardrobe. It never fails to escalate a basic look.

A black leather jacket

No Fall list would be complete without a classic black leather jacket. It’s the perfect transition piece. I usually go from layering a light tank with a leather jacket to upgrading to a chunky sweater with a leather jacket on top. I have this one from Trouve and love the drape detailing. Here are some of my favorites below.

Sweatpants

For that first time it snows and you want to be your coziest self, you will love wearing a comfortable pair of sweat pants/joggers. I’ve been wearing these nonstop and also love this pink pair from Old Navy. I also recently linked these sleep shorts and sweater from Abercrombie, which has become my go-to brand for comfortable clothes to wear at home.

If there is one thing I always try to emphasize is that you must be true to yourself and your sense of style. If you see a trend popping up that you are not into, don’t force it. You know what looks great on you. At the same time, if there is something that you find intriguing but you’re not 100% sure about (my thoughts on white booties above), consider trying it out. Going to the store and having a try-on session won’t hurt or break the bank. What are your favorite Fall closet essentials?

  1. I love the whole outfit you put together. Combination of colors and oversized top with boyfriend jeans looks fabulous. I always loved jeans with hills. Just gives you that free and at the same time elegant look. 👌👌👌
