By now, you've probably heard someone mention the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I've been thinking about whether or not to cover the Nordstrom Sale because I feel like every blogger talks about it everyday nonstop for two weeks straight. Another reason I hesitated is because of the Nordstrom credit card.
If you're a consumer of blogs and instagram posts, you'll find that most websites encourage (more like, push) you to open a Nordstrom credit card so you can shop early access and get pieces before they sell out. I don't think you need to open a credit card just to get access to more clothes. The last thing I want is for someone to go into debt so they can buy a coat one week earlier. Based on previous years, Nordstrom usually restocks throughout the sale and even if they don't, it's not the end of the world. I like to take a more light-hearted, fun approach when shopping and not take it too seriously. 🙂
Ultimately, I decided to cover the sale but in a curated, focused way. I explain in detail the reason below but the gist of it is that I want to continue to provide valuable content. Creating a shopping guide for one of the biggest sales of the year is a personalized way of helping you find the pieces you need, faster and at an affordable price.

Why did I decide to cover the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
By putting together a selection of pieces, you can avoid browsing through hundreds of items to find something you like. I do the work by curating a collection of the most stylish pieces (in my opinion). With that being said, just because a bag is on sale doesn't mean you need to buy it. To me, that defeats the purpose of a sale and the idea of saving money.
I would never want anyone to have financial issues thinking that they need a certain item of clothing. No one NEEDS a bunch of clothes. People need food, shelter and water. This is just for fun. Maybe you need certain pieces for work or you're thinking about updating your wardrobe while items are priced significantly less. So I'm here to help! I'm planning on including all my picks in this post so you can find everything in one place.
How do bloggers make money from the sale?
Two words: affiliate revenue. If you click on one of my links, I get a percentage of that purchase. The price remains the same for you as the consumer but I get a small commission as a "finder's fee." I'm only mentioning this because people ask and I myself have wondered why the sale is covered so intensely.
Going through the catalogue and putting together my own selection takes a ton of time so I always want to make sure that I'm providing something of value before committing my own time and posting it on the blog.
What is so special about this sale?
This sale is special because Nordstrom includes new items, particularly for the Fall. Usually sales include end-of-season inventory that stores want to sell quickly to make room for new merchandise. This one includes items from AG, Paige, Ray Ban, Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, and many other high end designers.
What are tips for shopping the sale?
My number one tip is to go through your closet first and figure out what you have and what you may be missing. If you have some time, take an hour to organize your closet so you can easily see what you have. That way, once the sale starts, you'll know what you need and can easily find it. I'm thinking closet staples for the Fall/Winter, like ankle booties, a camel coat, a long cardigan for layering, or a nice pair of jeans.
If you're unsure about sizing, get both and return the one that doesn't work. Also, add items to your cart or favorites folder so you can keep track of them and check out when you're ready.
When does it start?
Early access (for credit card holders) is from July 12-18 and the sale is open to the public on 7/19-8/4.
What am I personally buying?
I'm following a less is more approach and only purchasing pieces that I truly think will add to my wardrobe. I've also made it a point to think of at least three ways to style an item before clicking "add to cart." I'm not into overconsumption and wouldn't want to encourage my readers to buy things they don't need.
My goal is to help you find pieces that you were already looking for at an affordable price. For example, updates to your work wardrobe or a great pair of jeans that you can wear all Fall and Winter long. In the past, I've made some great purchases during the Nordstrom anniversary sale, like my favorite black suede work pumps, which I also have in the nude color.
I'm all about wardrobe basics and investment pieces and this is a great time to find those items without spending a fortune.
How can I shop?
Here is the link for the Nordstrom Anniversary sale 2019 catalogue. You can shop online or in the store. You can also shop online and pick items up at the store if you want to try things on. I personally shop online because I don't have time to shop in crowded stores and spend hours trying things on. Venturing out to the store would require either bringing the kids or finding a babysitter-it's a whole thing. I avoid any logistical complications by putting the kids to sleep and then browsing as long as my heart desires. Nordstrom has free returns so the entire process is easy (maybe too easy).
Below are my picks broken down by category. I'll be updating the post throughout the sale so check back in for new items. Sign up for the blog newsletter to get an exclusive look into the sale.

Note: you can see all the items and sale prices now, but you won't be able to shop them until July 12th (early access) or July 19th (regular access). Add items to your Nordstrom favorites folder in the meantime.

I really love your approach to the sale this year. At the end of the day, it’s just clothes and as consumers we need to be smart about our purchases! I’m definitely taking a more cautious approach to how I shop this thing this year to avoid accumulating a ton of stuff that isn’t realistic for my personal lifestyle. Thanks for writing this post!
