I can remember as a little girl, watching my mom get ready for a night out. I would watch closely as she put the finishing touches on her makeup, carefully applying black eye liner with a steady hand. Looking up at her with admiration, I would ask her rapid fire questions and watch carefully as she applied a brown toned lipstick. I distinctly remember trying on her heels and praying that one day we would be the same size. Even now, I remember sitting there as a little girl and thinking that I had the most beautiful and elegant mom in the world.
I hadn’t really thought about these memories until recently when my two year old daughter started trying on my heels and playing with my make-up. Now, as I get ready with Julian for a night out, I can see from the corner of my eye, Perry looking up at me and watching me get ready. She loves to point at my make-up and ask, “mama, what’s that?” or “mama, what are you doing?” while attempting to open anything she can get her hands on. Most of all, I love watching her play dress up with my t-shirts, which coincidentally look like dresses on her, and pretend like she’s going to a party. These moments are incredibly special to me.
For most date nights, I keep it casual with black skinny jeans and a cami and either a camel coat or leather jacket on top, depending on the season. There are some date nights though when I take it to the next level. Enter Sachin & Babi.
One of my favorite designers, Sachin & Babi, is all about bringing back the art of dressing up. There’s something about putting on a dress that fits you in all the right places. I’ve spoken before about my style philosophy and how what you’re wearing is a reflection of how you feel about yourself that day. This dress makes me feel like i’m about to have a killer romantic night out with the man I love. I love how feminine and timeless Sachin & Babi dresses are, while somehow remaining on trend.
In keeping with the fun, flirty vibe of a date night, I was instantly drawn to the silhouette of this dress and the unexpected knit material. It highlights your curves in a subtle way but has a flared bottom for an unexpected twist. The overall look is stunningly simplistic but with an edge. I wore my classic black pumps when we were shooting the look. I’m planning on adding a black leather jacket for date nights to come.
